Cherenkov Radiation is the inspiration behind the gradating blue of our logos…
Leon’s elective in final year was Nuclear Engineering. They had gone to Pelindaba, where they saw that hue shining from the SAFARI-1 research reactor that is active there.
Cherenkov Radiation is a fascinating thing that happens when a charged electron is ejected during atomic fission from a water submerged nuclear reactor. Light traveling through water occurs at a velocity of about 0,75 C (C – Speed of light in a vacuum). The electron ejected travels through the water faster than the speed of light in that medium (the water). It creates behind it a cone shaped energy “wake” and a part of that energy is released as a photon in the visual spectrum… this blue hue.
Something so spectacular, we wanted our brand to reflect the same.
